Is Organic Pet Food a Wise Choice?

Is Organic Pet Food a Wise Choice?

Over the last several years, organic pet food has become a regular choice for many pet owners. In fact, sales for this food have almost tripled in that time. This is because many pet owners are quickly becoming aware of the fillers and other additives put in regular pet food, which is why switching to organic food is easily one of the best things you can do for your pet.

So what are some of the benefits of organic and natural pet food? Most of the certified organic brands can not only help extend the life of your pet, but they also offer other substantial health benefits as well. Since these foods have been proven to increase the immune systems of many animals, a steady diet of organic food can reduce allergies and skin infections.

Another important factor is that many pet foods are manufactured using harsh and often times dangerous chemicals. With certified organic food, these chemicals are not used in the manufacturing process, which greatly reduces the risks for cancers and other deadly diseases faced by your pet. It doesn't take much common sense to realize that less chemicals, and the closer to nature a product is, the better it will be for your pet's overall health!

While all of these benefits seem like a no brainer for many animal lovers, the single biggest problem faced by many pet owners is the price of buying organic food. Just like organic food for humans is more expensive due to more costly manufacturing processes, organic pet food follows similar stringent manufacturing guidelines and regulations, making it more costly.

One option many pet owners have done is to make their own pet food. The most common way this is done is by mixing together such things as fresh poultry and vegetables, then blending it all together in a food processor. While this is most likely a better alternative than regular pet food, keep in mind that unless you are buying organic food to mix together, the poultry and vegetables will still most likely contain chemicals and growth hormones.

Buying organic/natural food for your pet can be a difficult choice for many owners due to the price, but keep in mind the money you save buying regular pet food, may be offset by costly veterinarian bills. In the end, buying organic food or not is a personal choice and one that must be weighed carefully.
